CONFERENCE PLANNING
I was on the planning committee for the second International Conference of Paleoceanography (ICP), September 1986 (Woods Hole, MA, USA). While employed at University College London, I proposed that UCL host the 2013 ICP in London. IN preparation, I negotiated the conference hall location, catering and local hotel rates and then wrote the PowerPoint presentation for our pitch to host the 2013 ICP. In the narrowest of votes by participants at the 2010 ICP (La Jolla, CA USA) meeting, Barcelona won the right to hold the event by one vote. Click to download
During the 8th ICP meeting (Biarritz, France, 5-10 September 2005), I organized and convened a 30-person workshop called “Mass Spectrometry Intercalibration: Standardized techniques and materials”, as a follow-up to our 2000 Paleoceanography paper.
In August 1993 (Woods Hole, MA, USA), I organized a 2-day conference on “Planktonic Foraminiferal Identification in the Global Coretop Database”. Invited participants discussed the taxonomy of "problem" Neogloboquadrina dutertrei and Neogloboquadrina pachyderma (sinistral and dextral) variants.
